What's Up With Your Iowa Crush
Crush open season with a Victory at Minnesota
Your Iowa Crush brought home a road victory against IWFL rival Minnesota Vixen. The Crush took the lead with a QB keeper from Jenifer McIntire running it in. Followed by the extra point from Nancy Javaux. Later in the game, McIntire added another rushing touchdown, as did running back Ashley Hamilton. The Crush defense held strong holding the Vixen to no offensive points. The Vixen got their only touchdown on a kickoff return runback. The ending score was Crush 20: Vixen 6.
Iowa Crush bring back a Win from Canada!
The Iowa Crush were invited by the IWFL and host Manitoba Fearless to head to Winnipeg, Canada for an exhibition game. The Crush took on the challenge by getting their passports and fundraising. The team headed to Canada for the July 17th game, and added a few players from the Minnesota Vixen and Wisconsin Wolves to complete the roster. Since the game was being held in Canada, the Crush had to learn Canadian Football League rules which included a 12th man on the field, only 3 downs, a larger field, and many other odd rules. During the game, the Crush started out strong shutting down their defense then driving down field with Ashley Hamilton running the ball, and finally Nancy Javaux running the ball in for a touchdown. The Fearless answered with their own 60 yard touchdown pass the following drive but missed their extra point, bringing the score to 7-6 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Crush were first to score with a beautiful touchdown pass from Jenifer McIntire to Tiffany Loomis. The Crush were ahead 14-6 when the Fearless answered with another touchdown. The Fearless then passed for a 2 point conversion to tie the game. The rest of the game was very back and forth until the Crush regained control with about 4 minutes left to play. The Crush drove the ball down the field and Hamilton ran the ball in for a touchdown to put the Crush ahead. As the defense stepped on the field, the pressure was on. The Crush defense shut down the Fearless to give the ball back to the offense to finish out the game with a 20-14 final score. Congratulations to all the players, especially Jenifer McIntire for being awarded offensive MVP by the Fearless! The Crush would like to send a special thank you to the Manitoba Fearless, as well as the Vixen and Wolves.
Iowa's own Erin Sheriff brings home a Gold with TEAM USA!
Crush player Erin Sheriff got the honor of being selected to play for the USA in the inaugural International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Women's World Championship in Stockholm, Sweden. Sheriff joined the team as a kicker, but ended up stepping in at backup safety as well. The USA defense held strong with shutouts all three games outscoring opponents 201-0. The team beat teams from Austria (63-0), Finland (77-0), and Canada (66-0) for the Gold medal. The team came in as the favorite to win and showed why they were. Sheriff contributed with a few tackles at safety and many punts. Sheriff said that she enjoyed the city of Stockholm and said they were very lucky with perfect weather. Congratulations to Erin, and the rest of Team USA on this huge accomplishment.
